Valentine's Day Activities

How to Celebrate Valentine’s Day in the Middle School Classroom

Remember celebrating Valentine’s Day in elementary school: exchanging Valentine’s, making cute crafts, and enjoying treats? Well, it doesn’t exactly work like that in middle school. There’s no designated party to exchange Valentine’s, there are too many food allergies for treats, and we must carry on with teaching our curriculum. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t incorporate some fun Valentine’s Day activities into our middle school classrooms.

Valentine’s Day Activities

Below I am sharing some of my favorite activities for Valentine’s Day in the middle school classroom:

Editable Bitmoji Valentine’s for Students– The Editable Bitmoji Encouraging Notes for Students are designed to spread some love to your students on Valentine’s Day. Even big kids enjoy knowing they are loved and cared for. This product features 9 Valentines and 1 thank you note. Editable We Go Together Like… Bulletin Board Kit– The Editable We Go Together Like… Bulletin Board Kit is designed to add a pop of flair to any classroom or door décor. It is the perfect display around Valentine’s Day. This classroom décor complements any subject! Insert a text box to edit or print and have students write on the hearts. Tip: If you laminate, students can write on the hearts with dry erase marker and you can reuse them every year!

Conversation Heart Writing Activity

Conversation Heart Writing Activity– Students will receive a pack of conversation hearts or a certain amount if you purchase bags. Students will then create a Valentine’s day inspired story, crafted about the conversation hearts they chose. Organizers and checklists are provided to guide students through the writing process.

Conversation Heart Statistics Activity

Conversation Heart Statistics Activity- Students will receive a pack of conversation hearts or a certain amount if you purchase bags. Students will record the number of conversation hearts per color, and then identify the fraction, decimal, and percent each color represents of the total. Students will then analyze the data by finding the mean, median, mode, range, and mean absolute deviation. Students will create a Pictograph and a Bar graph or Histogram. Finally, students will use the statistical analysis and graphs to draw conclusions and make predictions about the data, using evidence to support their claims.

Broken Heart Integers Sorting Activity

Broken Heart Integers Sorting Activity– The Broken Heart Integers Sorting Activity is the perfect way to review adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers around Valentine’s Day. This activity includes 24 different integer problems. There are several ways you can run this activity: A) Students can each receive a broken half. They have to find their matching pair. B) Students can each receive an integer problem, and find the answer that is hanging around the room. C) Students can work in groups, and each group receives all 24 hearts. They match the integer problem and answer and record on the sheet that is included. An answer key is included. Just print and cut the hearts, and laminate so you can use every year!

Cupid’s Curse QR Code Activity

Cupid’s Curse QR Code Activity– The Cupid’s Curse QR Code Activity is the perfect way to engage students with learning, technology, group work, and a mini room transformation for February/ Valentine’s Day should you choose to decorate.
